Technical area
The present invention relates to the field of the manufacture of parts made of elastomeric material, in particular rubber-based. It relates more particularly to an article of manufacture at least partially made of an elastomeric material endowed with luminescence properties and its production process.
[0002] Such a luminescent object can in particular be used for the dressing of timepieces but also in other industrial fields for decorative or functional purposes, in particular for safety.
State of the art
It is known to manufacture parts such as watch straps, in natural or synthetic rubber, or in various plastics. These bracelets are generally produced by molding, the mold optionally comprising molding structures making it possible to display on the bracelet graphic elements, such as a mark or a logo, or even particular decorative reliefs. Only the relief makes it possible to discern the shape or the inscription, without the use of any color.
All kinds of trim parts can also be made from these same materials, both for watches (dials, middle parts) and other applications.
[0005] Multicolored plastic or thermoplastic bracelets are already known, with or without having reliefs or colored patterns in particular. The different colored portions can be obtained according to various techniques, in particular by colored coating or by removing material located on a part formed beforehand by molding a sandwich of several layers of calendered elastomeric material, at least one intermediate layer of which is of a different color of a top layer.
However, to date, elastomeric parts exhibiting luminescence properties are not known, whether for decorative or functional purposes.
Disclosure of the invention
[0007] According to a first aspect, the present invention thus proposes a manufactured article comprising an elastomeric material with a luminescent character as well as, in a second aspect, its manufacturing process.
[0008] The manufactured object according to the present invention is at least partially made of an elastomeric material, such as in particular a rubber or a mixture of rubbers, said elastomeric material exhibiting at least in places a luminescent character.
In other words, the manufactured object according to the present invention is such that it presents, where it is formed of elastomeric material, at least certain zones or sections in the elastomeric material which has a luminescent character. .
[0010] For the purposes of the present invention, the term “luminescent” is understood according to its classic assertion of the property of emitting light from a substance or an object when cold, without producing heat. It includes in particular the fluorescence or phosphorescence properties, that is to say the ability to emit light after having been subjected to an external energy stimulus such as incident radiation, in particular for example white or ultra-light light. purple, shock, or heating by friction.
According to the invention, the luminescent character of the manufactured object of the invention results from the integration into the mass of elastomeric material of a compound capable of luminescence. This compound can in particular be a luminescent pigment, such as, for example, produced and marketed under the brand Super-LumiNova®.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the elastomeric material comprises at most 80% by weight of compound capable of luminescence. The concentration of the luminescent compound in the elastomeric material can be adapted to a large extent by a person skilled in the art depending on the luminescence intensity desired for the manufactured product as well as the mechanical properties of the desired elastomer material, in particular its vulcanization properties. and resistance to abrasion and / or breakage.
[0013] According to one embodiment, the compound capable of luminescence is distributed homogeneously in the mass of elastomeric material.
[0014] Alternatively, the compound capable of luminescence is localized or concentrated discretely, ie locally in certain exclusive areas of the elastomeric material, whether on the surface or in a section of thickness of the elastomeric material.
[0015] According to a second aspect, the invention also proposes a method for producing a manufactured object as defined above, this method comprising the following steps:<tb> a. <SEP> acquire a preparation of elastomeric material comprising a compound capable of luminescence,<tb> b. <SEP> affix said preparation of elastomeric material comprising a compound capable of luminescence on all or part of an elastomeric material component of complementary nature,<tb> c. <SEP> molding the preparation of elastomeric material comprising a compound capable of luminescence on said component so as to at least partially crosslink said preparation on said component in a mold of suitable shape to form at least one blank of said manufactured article or a part thereof comprising at least one luminescent part,<tb> d. <SEP> forming said manufactured object from said blank.
[0016] According to one embodiment of the method of the invention, said preparation is affixed in liquid form or of a calendered sheet on one face of said component.
[0017] According to one embodiment, said component coated with the preparation of elastomeric material comprising a compound capable of molded luminescence is partially crosslinked after molding.
According to one embodiment, said blank is then molded onto by a piece of elastomeric material of complementary nature also partially crosslinked so as to assemble them by total crosslinking on one another to form said manufactured object.
Once said manufactured object has been obtained, it is subjected to a finishing operation intended to define the luminescent part on a surface of said object. In particular, it is possible to carry out a material removal operation. This material removal may in particular consist of at least one deburring operation, which may be mechanical using a manual or automatic tool or even physical, in particular by heating using a laser beam, so to clearly delimit the lines, bands or shapes constituting the luminescent part with respect to the rest of the manufactured object or to bring out these in the mass of the object. This makes it possible to increase the distinction between the non-luminescent parts made of elastomeric material devoid of luminescent compound and the luminescent parts.
[0020] According to a preferred embodiment of the method of the invention, the luminescent part of the object covers or forms all or part of a relief on the piece of molded elastomer material.
According to one characteristic of the method, the component of elastomeric material on which is affixed the preparation comprising a compound capable of luminescence consists of one or more sheets of calendered elastomeric material at least partially vulcanized.
According to one characteristic of the process of the invention, the elastomeric material of the preparation and of the component on which it is affixed is a rubber, in particular of the EPDM or EPM type for example.
According to one characteristic of the process of the invention, the luminescent compound of the preparation is a luminescent pigment, in particular sold under the brand Super-LumiNova®. Such a pigment could in particular be integrated into the preparation in the liquid state in a concentration of at most 80% by weight of compound capable of luminescence.
Brief description of the drawings
Other characteristics of the present invention will emerge more clearly on reading the description which follows, made with reference to the appended drawing, in which FIG. 1 represents in a synthetic manner the steps of the method of manufacturing an object. manufactured according to the invention and FIG. 2 a manufactured object according to the invention obtained according to this process.
Mode (s) for carrying out the invention
In the following description, the invention will be described, by way of nonlimiting example, in relation to the production of a manufactured object 10 such as a watch strap strand, a dial or even a watch case trim element made of elastomeric material, in particular rubber, comprising in its mass or on one surface at least one luminescent compound such as, in particular, a phosphorescent pigment as sold under the brand Super-LumiNova®.
The invention is however not limited to this single pigment but generally applies to the integration of any compound capable of luminescence in an article manufactured from an elastomeric material in order to give the latter properties. luminescence properties, in particular following illumination under white light or in the ultra-violet light spectrum.
The manufactured object 10 of the invention consists at least partially of elastomeric material and at least part of which has a luminescent character.
This is understood to mean that all or part of the manufactured object 10 may consist of said elastomeric material, and all or part of this elastomeric material may include a pigment giving it its luminescence properties. The manufactured object 10 can thus comprise on a surface or in a section one or more discrete zones such as lines, points or surfaces in which a said luminescent pigment provides a locally luminescent character to the object.
It can also be made entirely of elastomeric material within which said luminescent pigment is integrated and distributed homogeneously throughout the mass and over the entire surface of the object such that the manufactured object 10 in its entirety has a luminescent character.
By way of example, the elastomers used to achieve the manufactured object 10 of the invention can be chosen from general elastomers, such as natural rubber, polyisoprene, a copolymer of butadiene and styrene, known as the abbreviation SBR, or also polybutadiene. The elastomers can also be chosen from special elastomers, such as, for example, a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene, known by the abbreviation of IIR, polychloroprene, a copolymer of ethylene and propylene-diene, known as name EPDM, or a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, known under the name of EPM.
Said manufactured object may in particular consist of one or more sheets of calendered elastomeric material as defined above. The sheets of calendered material can be assembled on top of each other by vulcanization, in a conventional manner in itself for the manufacture of elastomeric parts. Each sheet of calendered material constituting the blank may in particular be of a thickness preferably between 0.5 mm and 10 mm, more preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm.
As previously indicated, the luminescent pigment integrated into the elastomeric material of the article of manufacture 10 may preferably be a phosphorent pigment such as marketed under the brand Super-LumiNova®. Of course, it is possible to integrate a plurality of pigments of different colors in the same manufactured object 10, either as a mixture or else according to distinct discrete positions within the elastomer material constituting the object in order to provide different luminescent zones of colors. distinct in the object.
The manufactured object 10 according to the invention can advantageously be obtained by the implementation of the following method.
A first step 1 consists first of all in providing a preparation 11 of elastomeric material in which is integrated a said luminescent pigment. The preparation of elastomeric material 11 essentially consists initially of a liquid base of elastomeric material, for example natural rubber, EPDM or EPM, in which between 5% and 60% by weight of pigment is mixed. luminescent, preferably between 10% and 50% by weight of luminescent pigment depending on the luminescence intensity that it is desired to impart to the manufactured article produced. The pigment and the elastomeric paste are mixed so as to obtain a homogeneous mixture in which the pigment is preferably evenly distributed.
This preparation 11 is then reserved, in liquid form or of green calendered sheets of this elastomeric preparation, intended for the production of vulcanized assemblies with other components of elastomeric material 12, identical or of a complementary nature in order to be able to be crosslinked together.
In a second step, then affixed in a second step 2 the preparation 11 on all or part of a component 12 of elastomeric material of complementary nature, formed for example of calendered elastomeric material. This affixing may consist of placing a green preparation sheet 11, or strips of green leaves, there are also lines, dots or shapes cut from a green preparation sheet 11 on a surface of the component 12 to form a luminescent surface relief on the surface. component or between two sheets of calendered material in order to form a sandwich, an intermediate layer of which will be luminescent once the sandwich has been vulcanized in a third step.
Once the preparation affixed to the component, one proceeds in a third step 3 to the molding of the elastomeric material preparation 11 comprising a compound capable of luminescence with the component 12 so as to at least partially crosslink said preparation on said component in a mold 13 of suitable shape to form a blank of said manufactured object 10 or a part thereof comprising at least one luminescent part.
[0038] Preferably, the blank thus formed has at least substantially the shape of the manufactured object 10 that is to be obtained. This blank can be the final object 10, to which only an optional finishing operation 4 such as material removal can be applied in addition to deburr the blank after molding and / or to properly delimit the luminescent zones of the object 10 from those. non-luminescent.
When the preparation 11 has been sandwiched between two sheets of non-luminescent elastomeric material, it is possible in particular by laser abrasion to draw any shape, logo, writing, graphic representation of his choice in the mass of the blank in order to show in this negative relief the luminescent areas underlying a nonluminescent surface layer. A “mysterious” manufactured object is thus obtained, which will project a so-called luminescent form as if illuminated in its mass after the object has been subjected to incident illumination of white light for example.
If the preparation 11 has been affixed to the surface of a component of a different color, the latter will then form, after molding, a luminescent relief element on the surface of the blank, the relief of which will be exacerbated after the object will have been subjected to incident illumination of white light.
This molding operation makes it possible to provide on one face of the blank a relief shape, for example of a geometric shape, rebate, a logo, an icon, a name or any other shape that one wishes to render apparent by color contrast on one side of the bracelet strand to be produced from the blank 10.
In the context of the present invention, by relief shape is meant any regular shape or not, resulting from a hollow or projection conferring localized variation in thickness, preferably of the order of 1 to 5 mm at most. , on one face of the blank and extending along one or more segments of straight lines or curves. The relief shape may be produced locally in a singular manner on the face of the blank, or else repeatedly at different positions thereof.
The blank can also be an intermediate component intended to be then overmolded by total crosslinking with one or more other elastomeric components according to conventional molding methods to achieve the final manufactured object.
If the preparation is applied in liquid form, sprayed or not, on the component 12, one can advantageously coat all or part of the reliefs previously produced according to conventional molding processes of elastomeric components 12 to achieve during molding only the final vulcanization and therefore the adhesion of the elastomeric material of the preparation on the component 12. It is thus possible to coat a relief in its entirety or else only certain portions thereof such as flanks or faces that are flat or not, ribs or countersinks, on which it is desired to apply a luminescent coating so as to provide a very localized luminescent effect, as after an abrasion of material as previously presented, between the relief and the rest of the blank forming the major part of the bracelet strand made.
The molding parameters of the preparation 11 on the component 12 to obtain the assembly by more or less partial vulcanization are common to the processes of molding elastomeric materials together as known to those skilled in the art, who may adapt the various parameters according to the elastomer used and the dimensions of the manufactured objects 10 to be obtained.
The method according to the invention can also be used to make various manufactured objects 10 of elastomer such as bracelets, inserts or others such as for example parts of watch cases or any other parts that can be made of elastomers. and on which it may be interesting to affix a luminescent decorative element.
